Wywiad z Owenem Richardsem i Mattem Lunnem z zespołu Colour of Fire

Obrazek Wywiad z Owenem Richardsem i Mattem Lunnem z zespołu Colour of Fire

Madee1: Nazwa Colour Of Fire jest inspirowana płytą grupy Boards Of Canada oraz twórczością zespołów takich jak Kings Of Convenience i Melt Banana, to eklektyczna mieszanka artystów. Jaki styl muzyczny opisuje was najlepiej, zwłaszcza teraz, w czasie tych szybkich zmian zachodzących w brytyjskiej muzyce?

Czy fani dają do zrozumienia którego z Was wola?

Mamy nadzieję dotrzeć do szerszej publiczności.

Z pomocą wytwórni Wasz drugi singiel 'Cut It' będzie promowany również przez video (mozna go obejrzeć na oficjalnej stronie zespołu po zalogowaniu). Najpierw pokazano go w MTV2.

Owen: Wszystkie trzy to różne dyscypliny sportu.

Wkrótce przed Wami całe trasy, z kim najprzyjemniej będzie podróżowac w autobusie, a z kim najmniej... i dlaczego?!

Matt: Ze wszystkimi!

Wasz album produkuje Steve Osbourne, który pracował m.in. z U2, Happy Mondays i Suede.

Będą tam piosenki z singla 'Decisions, Decisions'?

Matt: Nagraliśmy 12 kawałków w tej sesji (w tym 'The Exile', 'Images Of You' i 'The Company Won't Colour Me') i gwarantujemy, że przynajmniej 11 z nich znajdzie się na płycie.

Mamy szeroki krąg zainteresowań muzycznych i każdy z nas lubi coś innego, zawsze szukamy zespołów, z którymi moglibyśmy zagrać. Jeśli chodzi o naszą trasę to będziemy szukać zespołów bliskich nam stylem.

Madee1: The name Colour Of Fire comes from a Boards Of Canada album and influences in the band range through Kings Of Convenience to Melt Banana, an eclectic mix up of artists. Within which genre of music are you most happy to be labelled now currently with this quick shifting music scene the UK is undergoing?

Owen: I think we're past caring, we've been labelled everything from art-rock (bollocks) to Emo to Indie. We feel it is impossible for anyone to label us intil they've heard our record, which is ultimately a rock record with bits of metal thrown in because its fun to play. Overall, we just don't give a fuck.

You have two strong and charismatic front men in Stu and Owen both on record and more especially live. Have you noticed a division in your fan base and at gigs between who is the prefered? Are there any 'in band' jokes you can tell us about this?

Owen: No.

Kerrang seem to be heavily behind you at this early stage, do you feel that might be restricting of your promotion as they have a segmented proportion of the music media buying public?

Matt: Not at all. For a band at the stage we're at, all promotion is a benefit to us in some way.

Owen: I wouldn't say that we aim to market ourselves at just the section of the public who buy Kerrang, we hope to crossover into a wider audience.

With record company backing now, your second single 'Cut It' is joined by a video release too (which can be viewed by joining the Colour Of Fire mailing list) MTV2 have been the first to pick up on it. How was this first experience in front of the promotional camera?

Owen: Do you mean 'What was it like to make a video? Well, we enjoyed it imensely - but hope to make our next video a bit more exiting, maybe introducing a storyline and involving a bit of acting. I think I look like a bit of a geek in the video, so maybe I'll play it a bit cooler next time. We filmed it at the S.E 1 club in London which has about 5 vast spaces, the crew worked for free and we had a very small budget. We are proud to have got it on Mtv 2 though as it must be one of the cheapest videos ever shown.

Are you enjoying the radio session work you have also been doing, most recently with the XFM station?

Owen: I personally get quite nervous at radio sessions, especially if we're live to air. Its something i'm sure i'll quickly get over though, alcohol usually helps!

How does it compare to performing live on stage and in the recording studio you are in at the moment?

Owen: All three are different ball games.

Best known for your live stage show so early in your career is a sign of a tight band mentallity, but as the tours will soon be building up, who are you most and least looking forward to sharing the tourbus with... and why?!

Matt: Everyone! - its a situation u have to get used to, once you're on tour - living in and out of everyones pockets all the time you're bound to have a blast with each other and piss each other off at somepoint, we're a tight unit so we'll be cool!

Your supporting gigs so far have included shows with Placebo, The Libertines, Idlewild, InMe and Silverchair. Which so far has proved the most 'interesting' audience for you?

Matt: We were so used to playing one off shows to no more than crowds of 100/200 people that when we first played these bigger gigs they were all 'interesting' in there own right - all shows are I guess. The first time playing the Astoria i was really fucking nervous, playing to a sell out crowd - but the nerves soon pass and you just get used to the sheer mass of people. Luckily the response we've had from all these shows has been pretty positive and people seem to be appreciating what we're doing.

Sharing the same Managment company as Placebo, who themselves are a solid album band with a great back catalogue. You yourselves have hired Steve Osbourne to work on your debut album. He has worked with a variety of huge musical acts like U2, Happy Mondays, Suede and numerous others. Is a new side to Colour Of Fire coming out in these sessions?

Matt: We're definitely coming out with things we didin't think we had in us. Steve is a fucking genius which helps, but also the beauty of the studio environment is if new ideas come to you whilst recording you have the time to work with them and adapt them into the foundations of the songs. There has definitely been development in the songs, espeially our earlier stuff. We're still trying to keep alot of raw aspects to it but I personally like the thought of our fans going back to the record after 10 listens and still finding something new in there.

What are your personal hopes for tracks to be included on this album? Will we see any of the tracks from your first single Decisions, Decisions?

Matt: We've recorded 12 tracks in this session (including The Exile, Images of You and The Company Won't Colour Me), so you can guarentee at least 11 of those will be on the album, 'Decisions...' definitely won't be on it! Its a song that has been around for sooo long we've just moved on from it. We've tried to put as many fresh sounds to this album as possible.

Will you be doing a full headline tour in support of your debut album? Any bands that you have seen recently who you would like to support you or you would like to suggest we listen out for?

Matt: Once the album is released (hopefully Feb/Mar '04) then we should be doing a full headline tour of the UK and hopefully getting ourselves around europe aswell. We all have a wide range and contrast in our musical taste and are always looking for great bands to get on tour with - when it comes to our own tour we would be looking at bands closer to home to come out with us. We were fortunate when we first started to have good support from people around us that if we can help other bands to get exposure then that is definitley a good thing! There is one band in particular called Beyond All Reason that we're all keen to get on the road with us. The most important thing for us now is to get ourselves touring again soon so hopefully we should be on the road again before that.

The most important question saved for last, will Colour Of Fire be visiting Poland in 2004?!

Matt: Like i say, we should hopefully be in Europe early next year so you might just be that lucky!!
